One of the biggest names among football fans, Ronaldinho, is likely to visit Malta for promotion of his brand of wine and to play in a Footvolley tournament.
Ronaldinho had successfully led his country to a world cup victory in 2002 and also helped Barcelona win Champions League in 2006. He has a number of accolades in his name and is revered by fans across the world.
However, ahead of Ronaldinho’s visit to Malta, Birkirkara FC claimed that it was in touch with him for a possible contract between the two parties.
The club’s claims have been dismissed by Ronaldinho’s brother and lawyer. According to a report in Times of Malta, the football legend’s brother had categorically stated that Ronaldinho did not intend on signing a deal with Birkirkara FC.
Responding to this, Birkirkara FC Technical Director Michael Valenzia said that Ronahdinho’s brother did not manage the superstar anymore and therefore he had nothing to do with Ronaldinho.
Later, Dr Jean Paul Sammut, a lawyer claiming to represent the football star put out a statement and said: “All allegations between my client and the club are completely false. Mr. Ronaldo De Assis Moreira’s agent was called by a Birkirkara Football Club official to express the interest of the club in having Ronaldinho joining the club for the coming season, however this request was rejected instantly.”
With this latest update, the hopes of Birkirkara FC fans wanting to see Ronaldinho play for their club seem to have dashed. Michael Valenzia had earlier stated that there was a possibility of Birkirkara FC signing Ronaldinho.
Following this announcement, the Birkirkara FC fans started printing club’s jersey with Ronaldinho’s name on it. However, Mr Valenzia urged the fans to be patient and not get too excited because the “negotiations are a complex process”.
